Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a term that is used interchangeably with terms like therapy and counseling. All the providers at Synergy offer psychotherapy and each therapist has her own unique style for building relationships with clients. The therapists conduct treatment that is grounded in psychological theory, evidence based practices, clinical experience, and a commitment to continuing education. Psychotherapy services are available to adolescents and adults. Sessions can be for individuals, couples or families and typically last 45-60 minutes. Synergy therapists pride themselves on providing exceptional care in a welcoming and compassionate environment. They routinely assist with the following:

  • Adolescent and Young Adult Development: such as self awareness, peer relationships, confidence and independence, identity development, dating and healthy relationships, risk taking, self-advocacy, goal setting
  • Adolescent Behavior Challenges: such as school difficulties, defiance, aggression, social isolation, peer relationships, or experimenting with substance use
  • Family Matters: such as separation/divorce, blended families, parenting, attachment, or family relationships
  • Mood Disorders: such as depression and anxiety
  • Personal Growth: such as introspective, spiritual, and emotional exploration, identity development, matters of race, class and gender, and self-awareness
  • Relationship Issues: such as intimacy, dependency, infidelity, relational patterns and social connections
  • Self-Injurious Behaviors and Eating Disorders
  • Transitional Concerns: such as adjustment to changes at work or school or shifting phases of life
  • Trauma: such as grief, loss, abuse, neglect, domestic violence, or sexual assault
  • Women's Issues: such as pregnancy-related difficulties, infertility, postpartum depression, gender roles, professional identity

*While Synergy does not offer a twenty-four hour on call emergency service, therapists are available to respond to urgent referrals or critical case consultation requiring safety assessment and treatment recommendations.
